Book Review: Twin Piques by Tracie Banister

When Author Tracie Banister contacted me to ask me if I would like to read and review her book Twin Piques, I thought straight away it would be a book I would enjoy. Just look at the cover!! The genre is Chick Lit, which is one of my favourite genres, so I had high hopes for this book.

Description:

 Unlike her twin, Sloane has zero interest in romance. Her passion is her job, where she uses her gift for numbers to take down slimy embezzlers and asset-hiding spouses. When she’s assigned two high profile cases, Sloane feels confident the promotion she’s been angling for is within her grasp. But will her plan to climb the corporate ladder be thwarted by difficult clients, her co-worker-with-benefits, or – most surprisingly of all – her own sister? And how’s she supposed to stay focused on the drama at work when her childhood friend, Gav, moves in next door and the spark between them becomes impossible to ignore? To get what they both want, can Willa and Sloane band together and rely on each other’s strengths? Or will their differences drive them apart once and for all? 

 

My Thoughts:

I was totally taken straight away by the cover of this book, and it does do the book justice. The cover very cleverly depicts just how I imagined the twins Sloane and Willa to be.

I really really enjoyed this book. Tracie Bannister has done an excellent job of portraying 2 different characters who share the same DNA, but are so different in their personalities. I always liked the idea of being a twin and these 2 girls are great. Different in their ways but have that sisterly bond.

This book is so modern and so now! There are mentions of ‘Pinterest‘, ‘Orange is the New Black‘ and ‘The Rachel’ haircut! – that was Willa!! 

The Author has brilliant descriptive words within her tales, so that the images that she has created just slide into our imaginations with such clear pictures.

“Josh smiles broadly, looking as creepy and carnivorous as Lewis Carroll’s cat”

Out of the two twins, I can relate to Willa more so, she is laid back and enjoys the simple things in life. She also loves her food and when I read about her drink choice, I loved her even more.

‘The Dreamer … it’s made from pink lemonade and Bacardi rum and it’s topped with whipped cream!” – doesn’t that sound delicious. 

The Dreamer – maybe something like this?! Yum! 😉

Sloane on the other hand, “hates when advertising animates food,” (M&M’s).

This book is a romantic comedy, there is romance and there is comedy. I did chuckle throughout the pages at the scrapes and tales of the characters.

“..when everybody was doing the count down to midnight, she started spewing pink, glittery barf everywhere, all over her date, all over the carpet, all over Sue Wong’s dress. Sonya was so mad; she kept shrieking, ‘There’s puke on my Ostrich feathers!’ “  – doesn’t that create such an image and such a laugh!! 

Although this is a romantic comedy chick lit book, it is not predictable. There are parts especially towards the end that I didn’t see coming. There is lots more to the story than just ‘girl meets boy’, there is excitement, comedy, surprise and intrigue.

I loved this book, I shall definitely be reading more from Tracie Bannister. This was my first, but it certainly won’t be my last.
