Book Review and #Giveaway. The Big Event by Anne John-Ligali.

Thank you to Rachel at RachelsRandomResources.com for organising this blog tour, and thank you to Anne John-Ligali for my copy of this book. I did a cover reveal for this book at the beginning of the month, and mentioned at that time how excited I was to read it. I was right to be excited, it is a brilliant book.

Description:

You are cordially invited to the party of the season where you’ll meet Constance and friends in action.

Constance Jeffries is excited when she gets the chance to meet up with virtual friends at a get-together in a London hotel. She’s been tweeting and messaging her lovely friends for years and feels they must be just as excited to finally meet her in person too. Or so she hopes.

The Big Event is first part in a short story series about the importance of ‘real’ friendships and how it’s the little things that matter the most.

Ligali_TheBigEvent_Ebook.jpg

My Thoughts:

This is a lovely easy reading short story. I think the cover does a great job of representing the inside story, the characters and the sparkles. Constance will be an interesting and friendly character to follow and I am already looking forward to seeing what she does next.

The story feels like it is setting a base for more stories to follow, yet still being a very enjoyable read on its own. I think if you use social media yourself, you will be able to identify with the characters that Anne John-Ligali has created. I wonder how many readers will have particular social media users in mind when they read this story?

I have a feeling this Author will be very popular, and her books will be quite addictive reading. I can’t wait for the next instalment.

I am already looking forward to the next part of this online friendship story, which is due out next year.

Book Review: Follow Me, by Angela Clarke.

Book Review: Follow Me, by Angela Clarke.

During the run up to Christmas last year, I participated in a Secret Santa that was organised by Emma (@emthebookworm) and Kelly (@kellyspillane). If you search the hashtag #BaublesandBooks on twitter you will see much chat. My match was the very generous Sharon (@SharonSAtkinson). Sharon bought me this brilliant book, amongst quite a few others. I had read the blurb on this book, and being about an online serial killer, it really piqued my interest. It was as I had hoped an excellent griping read. So, thank you to Sharon, Emma and Kelly.

Description:

LIKE. SHARE. FOLLOW . . . DIE

The ‘Hashtag Murderer’ posts chilling cryptic clues online, pointing to their next target. Taunting the police. Enthralling the press. Capturing the public’s imagination.

But this is no virtual threat.

As the number of his followers rises, so does the body count.

Eight years ago two young girls did something unforgivable. Now ambitious police officer Nasreen and investigative journalist Freddie are thrown together again in a desperate struggle to catch this cunning, fame-crazed killer. But can they stay one step ahead of him? And can they escape their own past?

Time’s running out. Everyone is following the #Murderer. But what if he is following you?

ONLINE, NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM. . .

follow-me

Published December 31st 2015 by Avon

My Thoughts:

This book is brilliant. We follow Freddie, a waitress come investigative journalist. As Freddie is waiting for the big story to make her mark, she stumbles upon just the way she thinks to make her name in the papers! And it does just that, though perhaps not the way she expected!

Freddie accidentally meets up with her old school friend Naz who is working in the police force, and between the two of them and the other police, they have a race against time to find the social media online serial killer who has cleverly named himself @apolloyon aka #murderer. Some of this reading is scary stuff. The Author has really put her knowledge of social media in this book, and it is scary to see how much people can find out or giveway about themselves, without knowing. But also how anonymous you can be, if you know the right tools, as @apolloyon did. This book is so current, and will really appeal to all readers who have an interest in social media and who love crime thrillers. (This is me – absolutely the target audience here!)

The characters are great in this book, really well developed and I liked that you could see how the plot had changed both Freddie and Naz by the end of the book. Freddie is a complex character and I can see how Naz is confused as how to feel about her, Freddie is impulsive, gutsy yet also has a big heart. Freddie is a whizz at social media, despite tripping herself up at times as she adds her location to Facebook!! It did baffle me a bit that the police force seemed so inadequate in their knowledge of social media, but I guess that why they have IT specialists.

At the beginning of each chapter, the killers followers and following are shown, this was a really nice touch and made the book so ‘now’. As the followers go up, so do the murders, so this book really was a page turner.

As the killer is revealed towards the end of the book, I thought back over the pages and could see how cleverly wound this tale was. I had an idea, but that is only because I tend to suspect everyone! Angela Clarke is a very talented writer and I may just have found myself a new favourite Author.

If you love social media and crime thrillers, this book is for you. Even if you are not into social media, then this book will give you a much better understanding of it, and probably keep you away from Twitter and Facebook too. Angela Clarke has written a very clever book, and I can’t wait to read her next book.

Book Review: Jungle Rock, by Caroline James.

Book Review: Jungle Rock, by Caroline James.

I was very happy to hear that one of my favourite Authors has published a new book. I have read all Caroline James’ previous books in the Coffee, Tea range. I have been eagerly awaiting the next instalment with Jo and Hattie in Boomerville which is due to be published in spring 2017. So, when I heard that Jungle Rocks, a fantastic novella was out, it immediately went to the top of my ‘must read’ list.

This is a stand alone novella, but it has many of the same characters from the previous books. I have included links to all my reviews of Caroline’s previous books.

Coffee, Tea, The Gypsy and MeMY REVIEW!

Coffee, Tea, The Caribbean and Me – MY REVIEW!

So, You Think You’re a Celebrity…..Chef – MY REVIEW!

But now for the star review in question today, we have  romantic comedy novella
by Caroline James Jungle Rocks.

jr-16

Description:

Handsome young chef Zach Docherty is feeling the heat. Following an exposé in a national newspaper, his fiancée Poppy Dunlop has broken their engagement. Heartbroken at the thought of life without Poppy, Zach drowns his sorrows and, when his agent suggests that Zach becomes a contestant in a reality TV show, Jungle Survival, he reluctantly agrees. Plunged deep in the jungle, into a bizarre mix of talent and trials, Zach meets glamour model Cleo Petra, and the cameras go crazy.
Will Zach survive and be crowned Jungle King? Or will his latest exploits push Poppy further away…

jungle-rock

Published November 21st 2016 by Ramjam Publishing Company

My Thoughts:

Jungle Rock is a brilliant story with a varying range of characters. Zach has broken up with Fiancee Poppy, and about to enter Jungle Survival. Of course this makes us all think of ‘I’m A Celebrity’ in the Australian jungle, and whether or not you are a fan of this programme, it doesn’t matter. If you like easy flow reading with drama, excitement and great characters, I think you will love it.

We hear about the rest of Zach’s family based in the UK, which gives us more of a picture of the type of character that Zach is. Jo and Hattie feature in Caroline’s other books, so for me it was wonderful to catch up with them again. I think if you read this as a standalone book you too will want to hear more from Jo and Hattie. Hattie is such a lively, doesn’t give a hoot kind of character. She is certainly my favourite. I even have a picture in my mind of what she looks like. Now, that is a good Author for you, if she makes you picture the characters in your head!

The story doesn’t focus too much on the trials, but there’s just enough to get your imagination running and your stomach creaking!

“I’d eat an antelope’s anus, I’m so hungry”.

There is perfect descriptions of Australia, with great names – Mount Wumbah! I wonder if this is real or Author’s artistic licence. Also, the Christmassy feel of West Marland. This is a festive novella that doesn’t ram Christmas down your neck, but will make you laugh with its humour, drama and array of intriguing and engaging characters. I loved it.

Book Review: The Food Dare, One Thing You Can Do Everyday to be Healthier. by Lindsey Banks

Book Review: The Food Dare, One Thing You Can Do Everyday to be Healthier. by Lindsey Banks

When Author Lindsay Banks approached me and asked if I would like to review her book, I was hopeful especially because of the title of the book. ‘One Thing You Can Do Everyday to be Healthier’, one thing a day didn’t sound to bad, and if it could make me feel healthier I thought, why not give it a go.

This is how it went……

 good-for-my-health-picture-quote

Description:

The Food Dare provides a day-by-day guide to improve the way you eat, and will ultimately allow you to experience the health transformation of your entire life in just one month.

Healthy eating and dieting can be restrictive and boring. But, it doesn’t have to be that way. The Food Dare provides a day-by-day guide to improve the way you eat, and will ultimately allow you to experience the health transformation of your entire life in just one month.

The Food Dare is a 30-day challenge where you will be adding healthy new eating habits into your diet, in three phases. This dare is not about deprivation or restriction. It is about adding to your life to make your food choices healthier and more nutritious.

In each phase you will practice each new healthy habit so that it can become a lifestyle, not a diet. This dare is about making small changes, not big sacrifices, so that you can maintain it long after you have completed the dare.

Whether you are overweight and discouraged or healthy and strong, The Food Dare is a dare you should take. It’s time to learn the keys to a healthy diet and a healthy life.

Stop dieting and start making a healthy lifestyle change. I Dare You.

food dare

My Thoughts:

I liked the way this book started, straight away the Author says we need to consider why we want to accept this dare. I like that she put it as a dare. It makes the idea of becoming healthier more like a challenge that someone else will be following with us. If we quit, we are letting ourselves down. Lindsay Banks starts the book by getting us to ask ourselves why we want to take this challenge, so once you have told yourself why you are doing this, you should keep that in mind throughout the dares. If I started to weaken, I would remember why I started in the first place.

The whole ‘Dare’ process takes 30 days, each day we take on another healthy habit. It is a really good idea for a ‘get healthy’ book. It is motivating and not that hard at all. At least, I didn’t find it that hard, as some of the things we had to do, I was already doing anyway. I almost felt like I had a head start on others following the challenge.

The book has note space in it, for you to write down how you doing and conclusions after each day. I thought this was a great idea. I only had the ebook version, so if you were going to get this book, I would highly recommend the paperback version. I think it would keep the motivation up if you were writing in the book as you go along. There is also a Facebook accountability group that the Author has set up, so you can have group encouragement. I don’t use Facebook, so I didn’t join this, but I can see how having a group of you doing this together would be really helpful.

There was a quote for each day, which was encouraging.

“Every new day is another chance to change your life” – Unknown.

“If you want breakfast in bed, sleep in the kitchen” – Unknown. (I liked this, I thought it was amusing.  😉

The back of the book includes some healthy and easy recipes, like cauliflower crust pizza and strawberry banana green smoothie.

While reading this book, I got myself a fruit infusion water bottle, whereby you can add fruits in the middle to flavour the water healthily. My favourite fillings were lemon and lime, and cucumber and mint.

Overall, I found this book easy to follow, motivating with the quotes and really not to hard to complete.

Book Review: How to Bake the Perfect Apple Pie, by Gina Henning.

Book Review: How to Bake the Perfect Apple Pie, by Gina Henning.

Thank you very much to Author Gina Henning for my copy of this book. When I saw the cover of this book, I knew I wanted to read it straight away, so thank you.

apple pie

Description:

A scrumptious pie. A long distance guy. 4th of July fireworks guaranteed.
Lauren Hauser has it all…nearly. With a shiny new job and sparkly new engagement ring on her finger, the only thing she’s missing is her gorgeous new fiancé by her side. Should she be worried? Jack’s kisses are as sizzling as always and, sure, long distance is hard but, she and Jack are solid, right?
Of course the stress of planning a wedding—or not—is nothing compared to the stress of baking an apple pie. Because it’s not just any apple pie that Lauren must bake for the 4th of July contest; it’s her grandmother’s famous, award-winning apple pie! Yet Lauren is determined to make this pie her own and a little apple pie should be no problem for the Hauser clan dessert queen…!
But with her new job taking up so much time, a prize pie to perfect and the growing distance between her and Jack, Lauren begins to wonder if she can really have it all… Only one things for sure, there’ll be fireworks this 4th of July!

ap pie

My Thoughts:

I was very excited when the Author approached me with a review request for this book. I had seen the cover around and thought it was just the kind of book I would enjoy.

Baking + food + romance = perfect book for Amanda!  ♥

I really liked the main character Lauren, I felt totally that I could relate to her. She was stressing because she and Jack hadn’t set a Wedding date and everybody was asking her, when? when? when? As a woman, I know how annoying that can be, and I found that the way the Author had written Lauren, she reacted like a slightly unsure of herself lady. ( I know the feeling) Putting what other people say to tell her how she should be feeling. I think for the Author to write a character that makes me feel things about myself through the way the character is written was great. I was put right into the moment of Lauren arguing with her Fiancé, and attempting to rationalise it with her best friend. Her best friend is great by the way, love her!

My favourite part of the book was about the Apple Pie! I love books that talk about food, baking and books that lusciously describe the food, it just encourages the baker inside me. If anything, I would have liked more apple pie talk. I am a total foodie here!

“I’m adding more nutmeg to mine. I think it will be the right kick to invoke the judge’s senses”

snow white applie pie

There are some funny, but oh so cute parts too. You can tell how crazy in love Lauren is with Jack, then she goes and says something which gives me a huge grin on my face:

“I’m woozy on this love and my mind is swirling around in this moment. Maybe I need something to eat” – She totally reminds me of me!! I love this character!!

eat cake

Its Lauren’s Grandmother who wants her to bake the cake. We don’t see a huge amount of her in this book, but you can tell she is a strong woman and a Grandmother that we would all love. She pushes Lauren to meet be the best that she can be:

“..You’ll find that when you step out of your comfort zone you find the sweetest rewards in life” – Apart from being a sweet easy read, there are some quotes that made me think!

Although this book can be read as a standalone book, I did feel that I would have enjoyed it more so if I had read the first book. I had a feeling that I would have known the characters better and some of the things that they spoke of that happened last Christmas when Lauren and Jack first got together. On the positive side, I know have two more books to add to my to be read list, the previous and the next! Yippee.

To conclude, the book was easy reading, fun and tasty! I certainly want to read the next instalment of Lauren and Jack.

If you have read this book, or the previous one please let me know. What did you think of Lauren and Jack? Did you bake an apple pie afterwards? What apples did you use? ♥

Til next time, HAPPY READING!

Books I received for Christmas.

Some of the Books I received this Christmas.

DSCF1424

I received some lovely books this year, some which will be really helpful with my blog.

The first was from my Gran-in-Law, she knows I love to cook but don’t have an awful lot of time in the evenings. So hopefully this Gordon Ramsay fast food book will be very helpful and delicious.

DSCF1426

I also received a fiction book called ‘Chocolate Wishes’. This was from my blogger Christmas gift swap friend Shannon. I have written a separate post on that, which you can find on my blog. I am very excited to read this and I will write a review on it when I finish it.

DSCF1431

I also received two great blogging books from my lovely Hubby. He has seen how much I have enjoyed my blog and since I only started it in April, less than a year I will take all the help that I can. So, these books look really good.

DSCF1437

Blogging for Dummies will certainly have some great tips for me, but also I have found that some of the information in there I do already know. This made me feel like quite an accomplished blogger. Go me!! 😉

DSCF1435

Blogging for Happiness is looking really good too. It does make me very happy, and so does reading. So the two will just go hand in hand. I’m really looking forward to reading this book.

I was also very lucky to have been given a years subscription to The Good Food Magazine. I have subscribed to this before, but ended it a while ago. I used to get so excited about the new issue coming through the door, now I will have that again.

DSCF1429

Hopefully I will find lots of delicious recipes to cook and bake. Then I can tell you all about them here on my blog!

DSCF1432

The last book is ” 101 Great Things Every Woman Needs to Remember”. So, for all you other great women out there, let me give you some good things to remember:

You are beautiful when you speak and act from the heart.

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.

You’ve got a style all of your own….. and its cool.

I think I need to read this every once in a while to remind myself of all the positives and to behave and believe accordingly.

So, these are some of the books I received as gifts this Christmas. I still have plenty of other books on my to be read list, mainly from author / publisher requests. I will keep reading, keep writing and keep enjoying it all. That’s the best way, and the way I will be starting off my new year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY READERS AND FOLLOWERS.

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING ME THROUGHOUT THE PAST YEAR, I HOPE YOU WILL KEEP SUPPORTING ME INTO 2015 AND BEYOND.

I INTEND TO KEEP WRITING, I HOPE YOU WILL KEEP READING.

HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THIS LOVELY NEW YEAR.

AS QUOTED FROM ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS:

Tomorrow is fresh, with no mistakes in it”    Anne of Green Gables.

#apovgiftswap. Christmas Blogger Gift Swap.

#apovgiftswap. Christmas Blogger Gift Swap.

51345-Christmas-Gift-Ideas

My very first blogger gift swap, and it was lots of fun. I am very glad that I joined into this and will definitely do it again next year. Firstly thanks to Viola from apieceofviola.wordpress.com  who organised this gift swap.

What a great idea and so well organised. Viola set us all up with a paired blogger and then let us get on with it, communicating with each other and agreeing on how we should do our gift swap. My paired blogger is Shannon from  shannonagains.com .

Shannon and I swapped email addresses and spoke to each other quite a bit via Twitter and email. Shannon is really lovely and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer blogger pair. Through our conversations, we agreed that we would spend £7 on each other, (not including the postage). And as a twist for something different, we decided that we would only shop in charity shops. This we hoped would allow us to get extra bargainous gifts. Funnily enough, before we had agreed on the charity shop idea, we had both already bought something small from a normal shop.  😉

We both sent our parcels away and both received them in plenty of time. When I received mine from Shannon, it was so nicely wrapped. It was lovely to have it under the tree until Christmas day. box from shannon Shannon added a lovely little tag and a nice wooden heart tag. She really did put a lot of effort into the presentation. It made me look forward to opening it. I have to add at this point, when I was wrapping my gift to Shannon, my Husband was very sceptical that I was sending a parcel to a stranger and waiting for a parcel in return. I was very happy to show off my beautiful parcel to him!! ♥

open box from shannon

So, Christmas day arrived and I joyfully opened my gifts while Christmas music was playing in the background and my Husband was with me with the camera. I was very lucky with regards all my Christmas gifts. But that’s another story!

Shannon was so intuitive with my gifts, it really felt like she got to know me and the kind of things that I like. I loved all the gifts that she sent and am really thankful to her for all the thought and time that she put into my gift. Here is what she sent me:

contents shannon

I received:

Cinnamon and Spice fragranced candle.

Botanics Set including, body lotion, bath elixir and a mini buffer.

Chocolate Wishes book by Trisha Ashley.

A Christmas Mug with a sachet of Wispa hot chocolate and marshmallow. *

I am very much looking forward to reading the book. On the cover it says ‘full of down to earth humour’ Sophie Kinsella. Sophie Kinsella is my favourite author, so that and the title of this book says it all for me. I’m sure its going to be great.

* When I picked up one of the gifts to unwrap, I got another little surprise as Christmas music started to play! It was the mug, when you lift it up it plays Christmas music. What a great Christmas novelty mug, perfect!

DSCF1409[1] DSCF1407[1] DSCF1403[1]

DSCF1405[1]

Thank you so much Shannon, great gifts. I will be burning my candle while reading my new book and enjoying a delicious hot chocolate in my fantastic musical Christmas mug. Perfect for my relaxing Christmas holidays.

Shannon will also be writing a post on what she received from me. Here is a sneak preview……. My wrapping was definitely not as creative as Shannon’s. But hopefully she liked what was inside. 😉

DSCF1305[1] DSCF1306[1]

Thanks for reading. If you have participated in Violas gift swap or any other gift swap, let me know your thoughts and how your gift swap went. chocolate-heart-of-chocolate1

Some I recieved as Christmas gifts, some free or bought from Amazon, some from Authors / Publishers and some from Netgalley.

I recieved ‘One Day in December’ by Josie Silver, from my lovely bookish blogger friend Irena

one day in dec

Irena’s review of this was so amazing and she rated the book so highly that she generously thought of me and that I would love it too. You can read Irena’s review HERE

Description.

A love story about what happens after you meet, or rather, don’t meet the one.

Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn’t exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there’s a moment of pure magic…and then her bus drives away.

Certain they’re fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn’t find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they “reunite” at a Christmas party, when her best friend Sarah giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It’s Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.

What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.

I downloaded 2 books free from Amazon.

Anxiety Girl by Lacey London.

lacey london

One in four people will be affected by mental health issues at some point in their lives, but it couldn’t happen to you, could it?

Sadie Valentine is just like you and I, or so she was…

After a series of unfortunate events in her life, Sadie finds herself in a dark hole that seems impossible to crawl out of.

Once a normal-ish woman, mental illness wasn’t something that she really thought about, but when the three evils, anxiety, panic and depression creep into her life, Sadie wonders if she will ever see the light again.

Set in the glitzy and glamorous Cheshire village of Alderley Edge, Anxiety Girl is a story surrounding the struggles of a beautiful young woman who thought she had it all.

Lacey London has spoken publicly about her own struggles with anxiety and hopes that Sadie will help other sufferers realise that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The characters in this novel might be fictitious, but the feelings and emotions experienced are very real.

I was very happy when I was alerted to a bargain buy for a start of a series by a good blogging bookish friend Meggy.

The first three books in the Detective Kay Hunter series. The first 3 books were on sale on Amazon for only 99p, so I grabbed a bargain with those. Meggy has brilliant reviews of all of the Kay Hunter series on her blog, which you can find HERE – chocolatenwaffles.com

scared to death

A serial killer murdering for kicks.

A detective seeking revenge.

When the body of a snatched schoolgirl is found in an abandoned biosciences building, the case is first treated as a kidnapping gone wrong.

But Detective Kay Hunter isn’t convinced, especially when a man is found dead with the ransom money still in his possession.

When a second schoolgirl is taken, Kay’s worst fears are realised.

With her career in jeopardy and desperate to conceal a disturbing secret, Kay’s hunt for the killer becomes a race against time before he claims another life.

For the killer, the game has only just begun…

Scared to Death is a gripping fast paced crime thriller from author Rachel Amphlett, in a new series introducing Kay Hunter – a detective with a hidden past and an uncertain future…

Book 2 – Will to Love , by Rachel Amphlett.

will to love

Reputation is everything.

When a packed commuter train runs over a body on a stretch of track known to locals as ‘Suicide Mile’, it soon transpires that the man was a victim of a calculated murder.

As the investigation evolves and a pattern of murders is uncovered, Detective Sergeant Kay Hunter realises the railway’s recent reputation may be the work of a brutal serial killer.

With a backlog of cold cases to investigate and attempting to uncover who is behind a professional vendetta against her, Kay must keep one step ahead of both the killer and her own adversaries.

When a second murder takes place within a week of the first, she realises the killer’s timetable has changed, and she’s running out of time to stop him…

Book 3 – One to Watch, by Rachel Amphlett.

one to watch

Sophie Whittaker shared a terrifying secret. Hours later, she was dead.

Detective Kay Hunter and her colleagues are shocked by the vicious murder of a teenage girl at a private party in the Kentish countryside.

A tangled web of dark secrets is exposed as twisted motives point to a history of greed and corruption within the tight-knit community.

Confronted by a growing number of suspects and her own enemies who are waging a vendetta against her, Kay makes a shocking discovery that will make her question her trust in everyone she knows.

From the Author, DJ Swykert, I recieved a copy of his book:

Children of the Enemy by DJ Swykert.

children of the enemy

I have read quite a few of this Author’s books and enjoyed them all. So I was happy when DJ Swykert offered me this book to read.

Description.

Jude St. Onge is a man on the run. He is an addict who has stolen a large cache of drugs from Detroit drug kingpin Mitchell Parson, who is determined to retrieve the drugs and take his revenge on Jude. After the torture slaying of Jude’s wife, and the kidnapping of Jude’s daughter, Angelina, the last thing Mitchell Parson expected to hear when he picked up the phone was: “I have your sons.” Raymond Little, with a murder conviction in his past, and newspaper reporter Ted Rogers have become unusual allies with Jude in an attempt to rescue his daughter. Together they kidnap Parson’s two boys, hoping to secure Angelina’s release. Risks for both hostage-takers skyrocket as the two sides square off, while Detroit Homicide Detectives work the case unaware of all that is at stake in the investigation. Only Ray and Ted can save the endangered children in Children of the Enemy.

I was also lucky enough to win 2 books via Twitter from the Authors / Publishers. One I have recieved already and one is on its way in the post.

Tell Me A Secret by Jane Fallon.

tell me a secret

I have read and loved Jane Fallon’s other book ‘Sweet Revenge’. So I was looking forward to reading ‘Tell Me A Secret’. Then I read some great reviews for the book, and saw the giveaway on Twitter. I was as you can imagine, rather pleased that I won a copy of the book. I hope it arrives soon.

Description:

Holly and Roz spend most of their days together. They like the same jokes, loathe the same people and tell each other everything.

So when single mum Holly gets a shot at her dream job after putting everything on hold to raise her daughter, she assumes her friend will be dying to pop the champagne with her.

But is she just imagining things, or is Roz not quite as happy for her as she should be?

As Holly starts to take a closer look at Roz’s life outside their friendship, she begins to discover a few things that don’t add up. Who is the woman who claims to be her ally?

Perhaps it was a mistake to tell Roz all her secrets.

Because it takes two to forge a friendship.

But it only takes one to wage a war . . .

I entered another giveaway on Twitter. This is the first book that I have by this Author, and the cover and blurb sound great. I am looking forward to reading it. As an extra special bit, the Author Cara Hunter signed the book for me.

No Way Out by Cara Hunter.

no way out

DID YOU SEE ANYTHING ON THE NIGHT THE ESMOND FAMILY WERE MURDERED?

From the author of CLOSE TO HOME and IN THE DARK comes the third pulse-pounding DI Fawley crime thriller.

It’s one of the most disturbing cases DI Fawley has ever worked.

The Christmas holidays, and two children have just been pulled from the wreckage of their burning home in North Oxford. The toddler is dead, and his brother is soon fighting for his life.

Why were they left in the house alone? Where is their mother, and why is their father not answering his phone?

Then new evidence is discovered, and DI Fawley’s worst nightmare comes true.

Because this fire wasn’t an accident.

It was murder.

And finally my glorious selection from Netgalley. While I do love this site, it is very addictive as all bookbloggers will know. I have been accepted for 2 books and I have 2 pending and I’m fingers crossed hoping to be accepted for.

The Couple by Sarah Mitchell.

the couple

Actually I have just finished this book, and it was very good. So review for ‘The Couple’ coming up next week.

Description.

Whatever you think you know… you’re wrong.

Following a whirlwind four-month romance, lawyer Claire and hotel entrepreneur Angus are engaged to be married. Happy and successful, and ready to start their new life together, Claire and Angus find what they believe to be the perfect home.

But when Claire meets Mark, the man selling them the house, he looks eerily familiar. He looks exactly like the man she loved five years ago, the man she couldn’t bear to lose.

As Claire finds herself irresistibly drawn to Mark and crosses lines she never thought she’d cross, Angus’ behaviour becomes increasingly suspicious. Soon Claire doesn’t know whether she can trust Mark, Angus… or even herself.

Twisted by Steve Cavanagh.

twisted

The first book I read by this Author was Thirteen, and it was my book of the year last year. Amazing, gripping and so unique. I was so excited when Netgalley approved me for this. I really hope it is as good as Thirteen.

Description:

BEFORE YOU READ THIS BOOK
I WANT YOU TO KNOW THREE THINGS:

1. The police are looking to charge me with murder.
2. No one knows who I am. Or how I did it.
3. If you think you’ve found me. I’m coming for you next.

After you’ve read this book, you’ll know: the truth is far more twisted…

Then the 2 books I have requested, but are still pending are:

Death comes to Call by Clare Chase.

death comes to call

I have read a few of Clare’s books before and loved them all. For some reason I have missed the previous two in this series? But I’m hoping if I get approved for this book, reading it as a standalone won’t make a difference. Based on Clare’s previous books, I’m pretty sure I will love it.

Description:

Tara Thorpe may be Cambridge Police’s youngest detective, but that doesn’t stop her from cracking its most dangerous cases. Perfect for fans of Faith Martin, LJ Ross and Joy Ellis.

When a promising local artist disappears, the victim’s brother begs Detective Tara Thorpe to take the case. It seems there’s no evidence of foul play… he simply disappeared without a trace.

Tara agrees to do some digging… never mind that her unorthodox approach to policing has got a few of her colleagues’ backs up. Amongst them is her former supervisor Detective Patrick Wilkins… he’s had enough of Tara calling the shots and will do anything to knock her down. She must be careful.

At least she has an ally in their boss, Detective Garstin Blake. He’ll always back her hunches. If anything, they work together too well… at least, that’s the rumour around the station these days.

When a body of a young woman is found frozen near the fens, Tara’s evidence suddenly becomes key to solving a high-profile murder. Is their missing artist still a victim… or in fact a clever murderer with a deadly plan?

I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella.

i owe you one

My old favourite Sophie Kinsella, the Author I have been reading for decades! Another book is due out, and I wanted to read this before I even knew what it was about. I have loved all her books, so am really really hoping I get approved for this. If not I will just have to acquire this from the library when it comes out. I just know it will be amazing.

Description:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Sophie Kinsella, an irresistible story of love and empowerment about a young woman with a complicated family, a handsome man who might be “the one,” and an IOU that changes everything

Fixie Farr has always lived by her father’s motto: “Family first.” But since her dad passed away, leaving his charming housewares store in the hands of his wife and children, Fixie spends all her time picking up the slack from her siblings instead of striking out on her own. The way Fixie sees it, if she doesn’t take care of her father’s legacy, who will? It’s simply not in her nature to say no to people.

So when a handsome stranger in a coffee shop asks her to watch his laptop for a moment, Fixie not only agrees—she ends up saving it from certain disaster. Turns out the computer’s owner is an investment manager. To thank Fixie for her quick thinking, Sebastian scribbles an IOU on a coffee sleeve and attaches his business card. But Fixie laughs it off—she’d never actually claim an IOU from a stranger. Would she?

Then Fixie’s childhood crush, Ryan, comes back into her life and his lack of a profession pushes all of Fixie’s buttons. She wants nothing for herself—but she’d love Seb to give Ryan a job. And Seb agrees, until the tables are turned once more and a new series of IOUs between Seb and Fixie—from small favors to life-changing moments—ensues. Soon Fixie, Ms. Fixit for everyone else, is torn between her family and the life she really wants. Does she have the courage to take a stand? Will she finally grab the life, and love, she really wants?
