Book Review: Shopaholic to the Rescue, by Sophie Kinsella.

Book Review: Shopaholic to the Rescue, by Sophie Kinsella.

Anyone who knows about my love of books, will also know my love for Becky Brandon nee Bloomwood and her lovely Husband Luke. I have been waiting for a long time to read this book, as if you have read the last Shopaholic book, you will remember the ending……

You can read this book as a standalone, but I would recommend reading all of the Shopaholic books, as they are fantastic.

Description:

Becky Bloomwood and a hilarious cast of beloved family and friends (plus one enemy!) set off in a van to find her missing father, last heard from in Las Vegas.

Becky’s father Graham and her best friend’s husband, Tarquin, have disappeared from Los Angeles saying simply they have “something to take care of.”

But Tarquin’s wife Suze who is Becky’s best friend, and Becky’s mother Jane, are convinced the two men are hiding something and are in danger—their imaginations run wild. They must track them down!

Hijinks ensue as husband Luke drives Becky, daughter Minnie, Jane, Suze and other favorite Kinsella characters across country from LA to Las Vegas in search of the missing men.

Becky feels deeply guilty about ignoring her father while he was in LA, in addition Becky feels her enemy Alicia is threatening her friendship with Suze.

My Thoughts:

Well, as usual Sophie Kinsella has not let me down. This is the follow up from the last book that I have been waiting so long for. Sophie brings back all the usual great characters that I know and love. Becky is her usual quirky, lovely funny self. There are a few changes in her within this book which make the story more interesting. You would think that after so many Shopaholic books that the Author would run out of ideas to make the story fun and a page turner, but I can say that I enjoyed this one and as soon as I finished it I was hoping for the next one.

I liked the beginning of the book, where we catch up with Derek Smeath, (Becky’s old Bank Manager). He has been quite a feature in Becky’s life. So I thought this was a really clever way to give readers a quick update of where we are, and also to include Derek. (Who I love a little bit more after these events in Becky’s life).

There are some parts of this book that I never would have predicted within Becky and Suze’s stories, so I am happy yet not at all surprised that Sophie Kinsella has told them in this book.

Becky goes to Las Vegas in this book, and she is her usual funny self making me chuckle as I read about her escapades. Becky Brandon is the only person I ‘know’ who will compare shoping to gambling! After a go in the casino, she says:

“There should be more ceremony to gambling,…like when you buy something expensive and they hand it to you in a nice bag and say ‘Good Choice!”

We also see some different and some older dimensions of Becky and Suze’s friendship. Without giving any spoilers, they have to come up with a code word! To which they choose “potato” ……the reason being, because they can’t think of anything else.

I loved this book, as I expected that I would. I still love Becky, Luke and Suze and hope that Sophie Kinsella will continue to tell us about the lives of my beloved Shopaholic and her clan.

Have you read this or any of the Shopaholic books? What did you think of Becky and Suze’s escapades this time? I’d love to hear from you as always, so please leave me a comment below. I love to chat books, and particularly books that I love!

Book Review: Shopaholic On Honeymoon, by Sophie Kinsella.

Book Review: Shopaholic On Honeymoon, by Sophie Kinsella.

shopaholic honeymoon

What a lovely surprise I had when I saw Sophie Kinsella had released a short story that I wasn’t expecting…. and it was FREE! (on Amazon Kindle).

It is a very short story about how Becky and her Husband Luke have arranged to go on honeymoon for a year. Becky has planned the whole trip, and Luke  is going along with Becky’s plans.

It has Becky’s usual Shopaholic issues, she just has to buy these Murano glass goblets! and she just has to get souvenirs from here there and everywhere.

There are the lovable bits of Becky that all Shopaholic fans must love, Becky completely overreacts and makes some rash silly decisions. But that’s what makes these books so great. We love Becky and dreamy forgiving Luke too.

Its a very short story, but if you are a Shopaholic lover, then you will want to read it. If you haven’t read any Shopaholic books before, then this is a great little taster.

I loved it, and look forward to the next Shopaholic book……

Book Review: Sophie Kinsella, Shopaholic To The Stars.

Book Review: Sophie Kinsella, Shopaholic To The Stars.

shopaholic starsThe Description:

Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) is in Hollywood! It’s as if all her life has been leading to this moment. She’s hanging out with the stars….. or at least she will be, when she finally gets to meet movie superstar Sage Seymour, whom husband Luke is now managing. There’s so much to see and do! And getting Minnie through the hurdles for her A list Hollywood pre-school will require some… er…help.

Becky sets her heart on a new career – she’s going to be a celebrity stylist. Red carpet, here she comes! But Becky soon finds it’s tough in Tinseltown. Luckily her best friend Suze comes over to keep her company, and together they embark on a Hollywood insider trail. But somehow…..things aren’t quite working out as they’d hoped.

Then Becky’s big chance comes, and it’s an opportunity that money can’t buy. But will it cost her too much?

What I Thought:

I have so been looking forward to reading this book, ever since I heard it was coming out. I have read all of the previous Shopaholic’s and Becky is fabulous in all of them. If you haven’t heard of Becky Bloomwood before, then google her and devour all the series of Shopaholic books. They are my favourite.

As always in this book, Becky was laugh out loud funny, she gets herself into all kinds of fixes and quite a lot seems to do things without thinking through the consequences.

Becky has always been the type to dream of fame, designer clothes, being spotted in designer clothes on the red carpet, and now her dreams could come true!

We hear about all the characters in the previous books, its a great bookish family. All the characters remain as I remembered them. Luke, Becky’s husband is the best fictional husband you could find. He supports Becky through everything, all her stupid decisions and mess up’s, he is there. We love Luke!

There is a funny part when Becky’s daughter is befriending Becky’s arch enemy’s daughter (Alicia Bitch Long Legs’ daughter Ora). Becky is telling Suze about it and Suze says:

“What is this, the Montegues and the Capulets?”

Although I did love this book, I was a little disappointed with the ending. It really doesn’t sit well with me writing this, but I have to be truthful in my thoughts! Sophie Kinsella is absolutely my favourite author and the Shopaholics are my favourite books. Never before have I been disappointed but in this one I was. I can’t really say why without giving a spoiler, so I won’t. But if you read the book or have read it, I would like to discuss it with someone! Why why why!!!???

Aside from that little matter, I still loved the book and still always rooted for Becky throughout her escapades in Hollywood. I would definitely recommend this book. For Shopaholic fans, read it. For those who don’t know Becky, if you love chick lit, start at the beginning of the series and you will be addicted!

Thanks for reading my review, let me know if you have read this book what you thought, I really would be interested in your thoughts of this book.
