Links Book Blurb

In high school, Charlotte Windham was a typical student going through an awkward phase — glasses and all. She harbored a crush on Garrett Stephens, the teen heartthrob everyone can’t help but fall for during that unfortunate ugly duckling phase of one’s teen years. Flash forward fifteen years later, and Charlotte and Garrett have a second chance encounter at a Los Angeles restaurant. However, this time around, Charlotte has leveled the playing field. She’s a bestselling novelist and no longer “Glasses,” the humiliating nickname Garrett called her in high school. In short, she’s a catch now and, thanks to corrective eye surgery, it’s not just her eyes that see better…so does her heart! Garrett hasn’t fared poorly either, transforming from teen heartbreaker to adult lothario. A now successful professional golfer, he’s recently suffered a major setback in the form of a possible career-ending injury. With the upper hand, can Charlotte forgive Garrett for his past ways, and for his more recent Don Juan lifestyle? Will she even want to? And, can Garrett change his ways for a second chance with Charlotte, who may just be the perfect fit for him?

I was happy to be able to ask Lisa a few things about her newest book, and about whether or not she had a secret high school crush!! Lisa shares her answers with us here.

Tell us about your newest release.

A light-hearted, second chance romance, Links explores what happens when nerdy girl Charlotte Windham reconnects with her unrequited schoolgirl crush, star athlete Garrett Stephens, 15 years after high school.

Did you have an unrequited crush in high school?

I’m not too ashamed to admit I had such a fierce crush on a boy, I willingly sat with him in the bathroom at parties while he puked up wine coolers, just so I could spend time with him. Thankfully, that soul-crushing time in my life in over, but I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if I came upon that secret crush today as a confident, successful woman.

Can you tell us more about the main character(s)?

Charlotte Windham was a typical ugly duckling in high school — glasses and all. Highly intelligent and immensely talented, she’s become a breakout success with her best-selling novel, The Crossing Guard.  In school, she harbored an unrequited crush on Garrett Stephens, the teen heartthrob and star athlete who’s gone on to become a professional golfer suffering a possible career-ending injury. The book explores what happens when these two former classmates have a chance encounter in a Los Angeles restaurant, 15 years after high school. With the upper hand, can Charlotte forgive Garrett for his past ways, and for his more recent Don Juan lifestyle? Will she even want to? And, can Garrett change his ways for a second chance with Charlotte, who may just be the perfect fit for him?

Imagine Links would be turned into a movie, who would you cast for the main characters?

I would love to see someone with the emotional range and depth of Maggie Gyllenhaal to play Charlotte. I think she could make her come across as vulnerable, successful, intelligent and passionate. For Garrett, we would need someone who is classically handsome and oozes charm. Matt Bomer, who pulled that off perfectly on White Collar comes to mind.  If he’s not available, let’s just say, I would love to be at the casting call for that role.

You have also published other books, can you tell us more about them?

I’m most known for the Click trilogy comprised of Click: An Online Love Story, Double Click and Right ClickThe series follows a young woman’s search for love online in Los Angeles with the entire series unfolding in emails between our heroine, her friends and her hilarious dates. Fraught with BCC’s, FWD’s and inadvertent Reply to All’s, readers will cheer, laugh, cry and cringe following the email exploits of Renee and friends. And ultimately, they will root for Renee to “click” with the right man.

What do you have in the works?

I’ve just wrapped up a contemporary romance called Starfish, which examines the unlikely relationship between a regular girl and a touring guitarist in a band. When it comes to romance, you just can’t pass up the idea of falling in love with a rock star.

How can readers connect with you?

I love hearing from readers, especially when I’ve brought some humor, heart or happiness into their worlds with my writing. You can find me here:

Have a look at the description, all about the Author and below you can find all the links where you can buy the book. Also, there is a fantastic trailer for ‘Song of the Sea’.

I always knew who my mother was. I always knew where I belonged. And I always knew I wanted to be on the water, like my dad.

…Until I was forced to go out into the water, anyway. Out there, you feel really lonely. But you’re never alone. There is more life and emotion under the waves than most humans will ever see, more than I could have ever imagined. Down there, it’s an entire world of rage and hate, love and hope. It’s a world of fear.

 It’s a world of war.

Once, my mother told me she would sing me a song of the sea. But under the waves, the only music I ever heard was the sound of screams.

‘Tremor’ by Ryan Mark. Video Trailer and Q & A.

‘Tremor’ by Ryan Mark. Video Trailer and Q & A.

I have just finished an amazing book called Tremor by Ryan Mark. I will share my review with you tomorrow, but today I’m sharing the video trailer of this brilliant book and a question and answer from Ryan Mark himself.

The Author was kind enough to offer my readers a signed copy of his book, the giveaway will start tomorrow, so keep your eyes out for it.

Have a look at this video trailer for the very exciting book Tremor.

Thank you very much for my copy of your book ‘Tremor’, and let me first say how much I enjoyed it! It was an exciting, page turner. I loved it, but my review will be tomorrow. I just have a few questions for you today.

1. You write with amazing imagination, can I ask where the ideas came from?

The Dystopian and Post-apocalyptic genres have fascinated me for a long time. I believe these are the most frightening and potentially life changing genres around at the moment. I’ve always wondered what would happen if the world we knew changed forever, if society fell and the human race had to start again. How would this change the world, and what would we be left with? This led me to the question: What if? What if the world you knew was destroyed? If the life you knew was torn apart? And it was from these thoughts that the imaginings of a story formed, which became ultimately became Tremor.

2. I loved the book so much, I hope there is more coming from you and the Tremor characters?

The characters will be back! The sequel to Tremor will be released later this year. Fracture is scheduled to be released on the 1st of October and is now available to pre-order. Here’s the blurb:

The Earth is starting to recover from the destruction left behind by the tremors and Terrafall. William’s life is settling and he has finally found a place where he feels he belongs. With the opportunity to flourish, the Haven Development has been able to secure the future of its lands and people, bringing forth a period of peace and stability.

Yet something sinister quakes beneath the surface, hiding in the shadows, unknown to William and the Haven Development. Not a tremor, but a new enemy who threatens to tear apart everything William and his friends have fought so hard to protect. The peace is about to fracture

Lisa tells us what inspired her to write this book?

Growing up in London, crime fiction has always captured my heart and my imagination. I have always read these books as well as being influenced by family and close friends. My stories are all fiction but based on true life events. And what amazing lives some people have. Having reached an age that I considered to be ‘now officially grown up’, I decided to dip my toe in the world of crime writing and my let my imagination run wild.

Book Review: Blue Sun, Yellow Sky. By Jamie Jo Hoang.

Book Review: Blue Sun, Yellow Sky. By Jamie Jo Hoang.

I would like to thank author Jamie Jo Hoang for my copy of this book. Jamie is a very lovely lady and I am very happy to share my review of this book with you.

Book Description:

Hailed as “One of the best technical painters of our time” by an L.A. Times critic, 27 year-old, Aubrey Johnson’s work is finally gaining traction. But as she weaves through what should be a celebration of her art, a single nagging echo of her doctor’s words refuses to stay silent—there is no cure. In less than eight weeks Aubrey is going blind.

Travelling on a one-way ticket around the world with childhood friend Jeff Anderson, Aubrey is in complete denial. But a blindfolded game of tasting foreign foods in China jolts her into confronting the reality of her situation. So begins her quest.

In this adult coming of age story, Aubrey starts out at odds with her crippling disability and has a hard time accepting. help. But on her journey she finds a deeper understanding of herself and her life—sometimes fragmented and complex, but always with relentless truth

blue sun

My Thoughts:

So, to start this review firstly I have to say….. I loved this book, this book is amazing, you should all read this book straight away!

Aubrey is a brilliant painter, established and recognised in art galleries as extremely talented. Then she gets the news that she has a medical condition called retinus pigmentosa, in other words, she is going blind and there is no cure. Worse still, it will happen in 6 to 8 weeks. Aubrey decides to do something at this time, quite extraordinary. She decides to spend the next 6 weeks travelling the world with an old school friend Jeff.

The story is about overcoming challenges and living life to the best that you can. Aubrey is an inspirational character. She is brave, yet identifiable. The author writes Aubrey in a realistic way, she doesn’t just accept her condition and enjoy her travels. This is a journey of self discovery and as we travel on Aubrey’s journey with her, the reader will experience an explosion of their senses through your own imagination of the authors words. I could imagine the markets in India, the saltiness of the Dead Sea and the exhaustion of hiking to Machu Picchu.

Some highlights of Aubrey’s travels include an Indian market where she and Jeff feed each other very strange foods while blind folded and unknowing of what is going into their mouths. We also see the artistic side of Aubrey as she still paints as she travels. Painting and art are ingrained in her, as she revels in the amazing colours that she can buy in the market. Dairylide yellow and dioxaxine purple! As I mentioned, an explosion for the readers senses! Aubrey does one painting with a blue sun and a yellow sky, hence the book title. We hear her reflections on this and gain further understanding of her character.

We also hear a bit of history about the places that Aubrey visits. This book has everything!

As a British reader, I really liked that the author added in a bit about British / American speech. Aubrey and Jeff meet some British travellers, and they speak about the ‘strange’ things that British people say. This made me smile. 🙂    (especially because the author is American).

This book is so lovely that I have taken some quotes to share with you. I found them an extremely enjoyable part of the book, but also inspirational. I hope you do too.

“Everything that’s broken was beautiful at one time. And our mistakes make us better people”.

“Everything in life, our thoughts, our emotions are always fragmented. For me, art brings it all back together. With any kind of art you can feel something and empathise with it on a very deep level without having to put restrictive words to it”.

And my favourite quote of the book, which really sums up the whole story for me:

“Just because you can’t see the stage, doesn’t mean you can’t dance on it!“. How amazing is that.

Thank you Jamie for your wonderful words. This is a book, I will be keeping and reading again and again. I loved it!

And here is the book trailer clip. If my review doesn’t make you want to read this book, then this trailer really will……
