The Currently Reading Book Tag. #Booklover

The Currently Reading Book Tag. #Booklover

I have found myself with more free time to read at the moment, and although it started off with a slight lack of concentration, I’m really enjoying my books again. So this is the perfect tag for me at this time.

I saw this tag on Meggy’s site and thought it was a fun tag to do. I haven’t done one in ages. You can read Meggy’s answers HERE!

The Currently Reading Book Tag was created by Charly Reynhorse.

How many books do you usually read at once?

I usually have 2 books on the go. One in paperback and one on my kindle.  But they have to be completely different stories and usually different genres.

If you’re reading more than one book at a time, how do you decide when to switch to reading the other book (do you read a certain amount of pages in each?)

I read my paperback when I have more time to sit and relax with my book.
I read or listen to my kindle when I have less concentration and when I’m doing other things, like ironing, driving, chopping veg etc.

Do you ever switch bookmarks while you’re part way through a book?

Not usually part way through a book, but usually after I finish a book. Part of the joy of choosing a new book also includes choosing a new bookmark.  Here are some of my favourite bookmarks.

Where do you keep the book(s) you’re currently reading?

My paperback is usually on my bedside table, unless I’m reading it in which case it’s in my hands. 😁. My kindle doesn’t have a “place”. That could be found anywhere from my bedside table to sofa to in my bag.

This is what I’m reading at the moment.

What time of day do you spend the most time reading?

This varies depending on what’s going on in my life at the time. During this lock time period, I’ve been reading a little in the morning with a cuppa when I wake. A little as an afternoon break and then sometimes in the evening.  When life becomes more ” normal ” again though, this will change.

How long do you typically read for in one go?

Again depends on what’s going on at the time. At the moment this can range from 5 minutes to 2 hours. I guess a usual time would be about half an hour before I take a break to make another cuppa or do something else.

Do you read hard covers with the dust jacket on or off?

Always on! I know some people like to keep them in perfect condition, but my books are most enjoyed when reading them. So always jackets on so I can keep looking back at the cover if I choose to. The cover always relays more of the story the more you read of a book.

Which position do you mainly use to read?

Either sitting up in bed or on the comfy chair in my living room. I used to be able to read lying down in bed…… now my reading glasses don’t allow that!

Do you take the book you’re currently reading with you everywhere you go?

No. I don’t take my book to work with me as I don’t have any free time to read it there. If I’m going to most other places then usually yes. This could be either my kindle or a paperback.

How often do you update your progress in the book you’re currently reading on Goodreads?

Only when I start it and when I finish it. Although I often forget to do this and have a catch up process of what I’ve read and am reading.

If you have done or fancy doing this tag, link your post in the comments below so I can read your answers too. If you don’t fancy doing the whole post, just let me know an answers or two in the comments. I’d love to hear your reading habits too.

The Naughty or Nice Book Tag! #Suntag

The Naughty or Nice Book Tag! #Suntag

I haven’t done a book tag for ages. I saw this one on Meggy’s blog a few weeks ago. I thought this would be a good tag to do here on ChocolatePages. You can see Meggy’s brilliant post, along with some lovely ‘Suits‘ and ‘David Tennent‘ gifs with her answers Here – Meggy’s Naughty or Nice Suntag.

So, lets get right into the questions and see if I’m a naughty or nice book lover/blogger/reader.

Received an ARC and not reviewed it?

I find it hard to believe that any bookblogers have reviewed all the arcs they have received??? I have a few from Netgalley, a few from Authors, a few from publishers….. oops! Yes, I have a few arcs that I haven’t reviewed ….. yet.

So sorry Meggy, I love your David gif so much, I stole  er I mean I borrowed it….. I know you won’t mind sharing the DT love with me and my readers….. right???

Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley?

This is one of my blogging / reading things that I am actually quite pleased with. My ratio is 75%, which is brilliant for me. The recommended ratio is 80% I think, so I’m doing well with this.

These are my recent requests from Netgalley. I have only read and reviewed ‘The Couple‘ so far. But each book sounds amazing, so I will be getting to them very soon.

Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)?

I don’t think so. I review on my blog first, then over the next week I transfer my reviews to Amazon and Goodreads. Definitely a nice point for this one

Folded down the page of a book?

Well, I may have done before I became an “official” bookblogger! Now I have an infinite supply of bookmarks, I don’t need to. AND…..I promise to all book sanctuaries that I will never fold down the page again! Do you believe me?

Accidentally spilled on a book?

Not spilled drinks, but maybe  probably biscuit crumbs. I don’t think they count though, so I shall go for a ‘No’ on that question.

DNF a book this year?

Not this year. I think that is not saying much as its only February. So can I get an extra point, if I say not last year either!!!?

Bought a book because it was pretty with no intention of reading it?

No, I don’t really understand that? Its nice that books can look pretty on your shelf, but I have to have some interest in reading it aswell.

I have 2 copies of Anne of Green Gables. I bought the second because it was such a beautiful looking book. But I will and have read them both. I wouldn’t buy only for aesthetics.

Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else?

Yes!! Far more often than I should. Housework, getting ready to go out, talking!! What can I say though…. when a book grips you, you can’t break free.

Skim read a book?

The only time I do this, is if I’m not gripped by the story and I skim a bit to see if its worth finishing or if I should just give up. I never skim read a good book, in fact I am more likely to re read certain pages to make sure I am getting the right picture!

Completely missed your Goodreads goal?

I have met my goal in all years except last year. But I’m not bothered by it. If I’m not in the right mood to read then I won’t enjoy the books. My reading mojo dropped a bit last year, now this year it has slowly started growing again. This is largely due to all the great books I received recently. I did a post on this, you can read it HERE!

Borrowed a book and not returned it to the library?

No, never. That would be stealing! I have of course been late to return books and had to pay the fine. But I will always return the books I borrow, so that others can benefit from this wonderful service too.

Broke a book buying ban?

I have never set myself a book buying ban. I told myself I wouldn’t accept anymore reviews or look at Netgalley before, at least until I was a bit more caught up with my tbr. I stuck to that until I …… didn’t

Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about?

Yes, (hangs head). Often this happens when I am so excited to start my next book that I keep reading that new one and forget I have to review the last one. Most of the time, I will go back and review it though. It just takes a bit longer and a bit more thought to get it done.

Wrote in a book you were reading?

Never in books for pleasure. Probably in books for learning a long time ago. Now when I want to make notes (for review purposes), I will use little sticky notes with a few key words on to remind me of my thoughts.

Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads?

Not that I can think of. I suppose there might be the odd couple that I may have forgotten about, but my answer to this is NO.

no

Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend?

No, that would be mean, hypocritical and if the friend is a book lover, they may not ever trust me with her books again.

books n friends

Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book?

Not many people ask me if they can borrow my books. I am happy to let them read the books, usually only after I have read them myself though.

sharing books

Broke the spine of someone else’s book?

No, there is a book jail for that kind of crime!

Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ending up making it even more damaged?

I don’t take the jackets off the books. They are there to protect the books and make the books look nice. I like my books to look nice while I read them.

Sat on a book accidentally?

Yes, and probably more than once! Don’t worry, the books and I both survived unhurt.

I didn’t sit on this one, but the cover fitted the question, I think!

What a fun tag to do. Thank you Meggy for bringing my attention to it.

I won’t tag anyone particular, but if you want to do this tag, I would like to read your answers, so link me into your post so I can read it please. If you won’t do the tag, you can let me know some of your answers in the comments below. Are you a naughty or nice book lover?
