Mini Review: The Haggis, The Sheep, The Sister-in-Law and The Drunken Trip to Glasgow by Colin MacIntyre

Mini Review: The Haggis, The Sheep, The Sister-in-Law and The Drunken Trip to Glasgow by Colin MacIntyre

While browsing Amazon one evening, I came across this book by chance. It had the weirdest title, and it was based close to where I live. So, I decided to give it a go. Its a short story and its free to download from Amazon.

Description:

Ewan should not have accepted a lift to Glasgow from The Professor. He had bought a train ticket, had brought a packed lunch – he had been all set. All he had needed to say was ‘No’. Two letters.

Instead he nodded his head gratefully to The Professor’s kind offer. Now he’s driving down the ferry’s ramp, ready for the 96 mile (96.2, actually) journey from Mull to Glasgow on Burns Night Eve, sat next to a bagpipe-playing, kilt-wearing, adulterous, foul-mouthed Scot . . . in the snow. Buckle up!

My Thoughts:

Well, you may say this has a strange title! It also has a very strange content. It was a good short read, I was mostly interested because I knew exactly the route that this journey was taking.

“..down the Rest and Be Thankful, that mountainous stretch of barren road that joined the A82 to Loch Lomond..”

Throughout the short read, I was wondering to myself how the Author was going to bring in each part of the title…. and he did, in the strangest way. Often vulgar and disturbing, but entertaining!

We follow Ewan and Lachlan, two Scottish men on their unexpected journey together. My take on the characters is that neither of them are your average person, both are quirky! (to put it mildly).

If you don’t mind a bit of bad language and vulgarity, give this book a go. Its free at the time of me posting this. Check it out and let me know your thoughts.
