Book Review: Fifty Fifty By Steve Cavanagh. #LegalThriller

The first book I read by Steve Cavanagh was Thirteen. After this book, I knew I had found a new favourite Author. I was very excited when I heard that a new book was coming out. The title Fifty Fifty sounds so good even before reading the blurb. Then you read the blurb and it gets better. Then I got accepted by NetGalley for an advanced copy. Does the bookish world get any better ? 😊

Thank you to Netgalley, Orion Publishers and Author Steve Cavanagh for my copy of Fifty Fifty. Here are my thoughts on the newest book out by this fabulous Author.

Description:

Two sisters on trial for murder. Both accuse each other.
Who do YOU believe?

Alexandra Avellino has just found her father’s mutilated body, and needs the police right away. She believes her sister killed him, and that she is still in the house with a knife.

Sofia Avellino has just found her father’s mutilated body and needs the police right away. She believes her sister, Alexandra did it, and that she is still in the house, locked in the bathroom.

Both women are to go on trial at the same time. A joint trial in front of one jury.

But one of these women is lying. One of them is a murderer. Sitting in a jail cell, about to go on trial with her sister for murder, you might think that this is the last place she expected to be.

You’d be wrong.

My Thoughts:

I love legal courtroom thrillers. And as I loved all the Steve Cavanagh books I’ve read before, I had no doubts that I would love this one. It even got bumped up ahead of the books I had planned out to read for my #10BooksofSummer. It was well worth it though.

There was no fifty fifty chance of me loving this book, it was 100 % book love and consequently book hangover!

Two sisters, Sophia and Alexandra are both in the house where their father was murdered. Both sisters call 911 within minutes of each other. Both sisters blame the other for killing their father. But which one did the crime?

Eddie Flynn is a defence lawyer that has led a colourful life before he became a lawyer but has some morals and rules for his clients. He wants to defend the innocent! But how do you know who is innocent.

I love most books that have a heavy base in the court room. I like to see how lawyers play their game and how their use of words, phrases and specific questioning can influence the jury to go their way.

We also get introduced to a new character Kate who is defending Alexandra. I have a feeling we will see lots more of Kate in the following Eddie Flynn books.

This book kept me guessing right the way through. Was it Sophia or was it Alexandra. Did Eddie choose the innocent sister or was he duped??? A book that keeps you guessing and changing your mind the more clues you hear is a clever book in my mind.

As I read and condensed the evidence each lawyer played out in court, from their questions to the expert witnesses, I wondered which way I would have gone if I were sat on the jury.

Steve Cavanagh is definetly one of my favourite authors and I will recommend his books to all who like crime thrillers, legal thrillers and courtroom thrillers. Eddie Flynn is a character that has many layers and the more I read about him, the more I like him.

Well written with a plot that flows easily enough to keep you reading past your bedtime. It includes twists and red herrings and a bit of evil senseless criminality. Great characters with depth and grit. Just a really really good read that deserves all the 5 star reviews it already has. Mine is about to be added to that pile of rave reviews.

I’m already looking forward to the next book this talented imaginative author writes.

Book Review: Twisted by Steve Cavanagh.

Book Review: Twisted by Steve Cavanagh.

Steve Cavanagh is fastly becoming one of my new favourites in crime thrillers and this is only the second book I have read of his. You may remember I reviewed Thirteen last year. I actually voted Thirteen as my favourite book of 2018! So when Twisted came out, I grabbed as fast as I could. Thank you very much to Netgalley and publishers Orionbooks for my copy of Twisted. I did a little dance of glee when I received it.

book bound

Description:

BEFORE YOU READ THIS BOOK
I WANT YOU TO KNOW THREE THINGS:

1. The police are looking to charge me with murder.
2. No one knows who I am. Or how I did it.
3. If you think you’ve found me. I’m coming for you next.
After you’ve read this book, you’ll know: the truth is far more twisted…

twisted

My Thoughts:

The description of this book does not give too much away. The title gives you an idea… but not of the plot. So I prefer to keep this review vague on the plotline and only tell you my thoughts.

It is Amazing! A gripping, page turning, very clever and very twisty read.

I went in blind only with the expectations of it being so good after reading Steve Cavanagh’s last book. This was a good thing to do. Just when I thought I knew what was going on….bam… something else.

Twisted is a standalone book by the author who wrote the Eddie Flynn series. I haven’t read the Eddie Flynn books, but you can bet I’m going to read them now.

There are gory murder parts, characters to root for and to hate. And twists that will make you dizzy and addicted to this authors stories.

This book is different in a way I haven’t read a book before. If you are on Twitter you may have seen the Authors Wife tweeting about ‘who is JT LeBeau?‘. I think I read somewhere that Mrs C helped Mr Cavanagh with his inspiration for this book. So thanks also to the Authors Wife.

Twisted is written by an amazing imaginative Author, with a mind for very dark plots and evil twisted characters.

I want to use the word Twisted so much whole writing this. The title of this book is perfect. This is a book of twisted characters, a twisted plot and a twisted book of thrills. As the Twitter hashtag says #ThisBookisTwisted.

My recommendation…. go read now!

TH1RT3EN, BY STEVE CAVANAGH. Book of the year for me so far!

TH1RT3EN, BY STEVE CAVANAGH. Book of the year for me so far!
Thirteen (Eddie Flynn #4)

TH1RT3EN, By Steve Cavanagh.

Eddie Flynn #4

THIS SERIAL KILLER ISN’T ON TRIAL.

HE’S ON THE JURY…

If that strap line doesn’t draw you in, you are not a serial killer thriller lover like me! I saw these 2 small sentences, and knew I needed to read this book!

Description:

They were Hollywood’s hottest power couple. They had the world at their feet. Now one of them is dead and Hollywood star Robert Solomon is charged with the brutal murder of his beautiful wife.

This is the celebrity murder trial of the century and the defence want one man on their team: con artist turned lawyer Eddie Flynn.

All the evidence points to Robert’s guilt, but as the trial begins a series of sinister incidents in the court room start to raise doubts in Eddie’s mind.

What if there’s more than one actor in the courtroom?

What if the killer isn’t on trial? What if the killer is on the jury?

thirteen

My Thoughts:

Before I started this book, I had already read some excellent reviews of Thirteen. So although excited to read it, I was hoping that I would enjoy it as much as others have done. Those reviews I read….. spot on! This book is amazing, gripping, thrilling, page turning, keep you up later that you intended, brilliant.

Steve Cavanagh has such a vivid clever imagination. This thriller is unique and like no other book I have read. How can the killer be on the jury??? How can they ever find the killer if its the killer that decides the verdict? So so clever.

I haven’t read any other of this Author’s book, but I am aware that there a few previous books also featuring Eddie Flynn, the con man turned defense lawyer. It didn’t matter that I hadn’t read the previous books, although reading Thirteen makes me want to read more of Cavanagh’s book now.

The main character Eddie Flynn was a con man, now he is a defense lawyer. I think a good defense lawyer woud be wise to know some of the tricks of the trade, and with Eddie’s past, this does give him certain advantages. The other characters also are so interesting and clever. As we follow each one, we learn a little more about them and their pasts. Eventually I got to understand the mind of this highly intelligient killer. There is something very different about him, something that enables him to be one of the “best serial killers” I’ve read about. I know that sounds weird, being the best serial killer, but this is legal, psychological fiction guys, my favourite genre. And now I have found myself a new favourite Author, with plenty of books that I haven’t yet read.

A short review from me, but full of powerful words, go read it, its amazing, I loved it. So clever, legal thriller fiction at its best!

I had been enjoying the legal thrillers of Author Olly Jarvis, my original favourite legal thriller Author. Jarvis’ books are based in the UK. Now I have another favourite legal thriller Author, whose books are based in America.

TH1RT3EN IS AN AMAZING BOOK, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIKE LEGAL / PSYCHOLOGICAL / SERIAL KILLER THRILLERS.
