Book Review: You’ll Be Thinking of Me by Densie Webb

When Author Densie Webb approached me to ask if I would like to read and review her book, after a quick look at the blurb I had high hopes. I wasn’t disappointed, see my thoughts below.

YOU’LL BE THINKING OF ME is the story of Rachael’s serendipitous encounter with a celebrity, her brush with obsessive love, and the bittersweet gift left behind by the very person fixated on destroying her life.

My Thoughts:

I was taken firstly by the cover of this book, just look at those eyes! watching you, spying, glaring. They made me want to jump right into the book to see who they belonged to and why they looked so serious.

The story is of Rachael Allan who accidentally comes into contact and helps out famous actor and musician Mick Sullivan. This encounter is followed by Rachael getting a stalker who doesn’t want her around anymore! The book is exciting with nerve-racking parts and a great ending. 

I liked the main character Rachael, she is a down to earth girl who doesn’t get star struck and the type of girl I could relate to. She seemed approachable and realistic.

She runs a brush through her hair, a bit of lip gloss and a pair of ripped jeans and white t shirt.

She is girl next door type which is a nice touch for a girl who is spending time with a “star”. I like that she saw Mick as a ‘person’ rather than this superstar that is somehow different from the rest of us! We are all human after all. The Author interestingly described her as having two different coloured eyes, one blue and one green. Rachael is certainly memorable. 

I didn’t like Rachael’s best friend Jenna, she seemed a bit selfish to me, bossy and seems like she knows what is best for Rachael. Though in my opinion she really didn’t. I don’t know if the Author intentionally made Jenna dislikeable or if it were just me? 

Densie Webb did a great job of getting into the mind of a stalker and a stalkee. She made me imagine how terrifying it would be to have someone watching you and not in a nice friendly way, her writing gave me shivers as I read the way that the stalker thought and acted. 

As the chapters go on, they lead to a crescendo of an ending that made me read faster, turn the pages and wonder what happens to each of the characters. My reviews are non spoiler, so I can’t say much more except that it was very good.

There are lovely descriptions within these pages. When describing tales of Heloise’s life, they are described as:

“like Godiva chocolates – rich, sometimes dark and always leaving a taste for more”.

When Rachael speaks of her thoughts about her life she says:

“My head was stuffed with cotton and Mexican jumping beans”.

Densie was able to bring pictures easily to my imagination and I was totally engrossed in the story of the characters lives.

One of my favourite characters was Cora, (Mick’s Mum) she was honest, loving and true to herself. She sums the story up when she says:

“Life has a way of surprising the dickens out of you”.

I think that’s life in general, not just in this story. I think the Author’s thoughts were also wrapped up in that one small but huge sentence.

This is a good book that I would definitely recommend, I will be looking out for more books from Densie Webb. A talented Author with a great way of letting the reader get into the mind of her characters.
